2、ieR.WeingartUniversityofAmsterdamCarnegieMellonUniversityThisstudyprovidesameta-analysisofresearchontheassociationsbetweenrelationshipconflict,taskconflict,teamperformance,andteammembersatisfaction.Consistentwithpasttheorizing,resultsrevealedstrongandnegativecorrelationsbetwee

3、nrelationshipconflict,teamperformance,andteammembersatisfaction.Incontrasttowhathasbeensuggestedinbothacademicresearchandintroductorytextbooks,however,resultsalsorevealedstrongandnegative(insteadofthepredictedpositive)corre-lationsbetweentaskconflict,teamperformance,andteammem

4、bersatisfaction.Aspredicted,conflicthadstrongernegativerelationswithteamperformanceinhighlycomplex(decisionmaking,project,mixed)thaninlesscomplex(production)tasks.Finally,taskconflictwaslessnegativelyrelatedtoteamperformancewhentaskconflictandrelationshipconflictwereweakly,rat

5、herthanstrongly,correlated.Teamworkinorganizationsisincreasinglythenorm,yettheapotentialmoderator,andevaluatetheempiricalsupportthroughchallengesofworkingeffectivelyinteamsareconsiderable.Oneameta-analysis.challengeisconflict—theprocessresultingfromthetensionbe-tweenteammember

6、sbecauseofrealorperceiveddifferences(DeConflictandTeamEffectivenessDreu,Harinck,&VanVianen,1999;Thomas,1992;Wall&Callister,1995).BecauseteammemberscontributetotheteamEarlyconflictandgroupstheoristshavefocusedonthenegativethroughsocialinputsandtaskinputs(e.g.,Forsyth,1983),conf

7、licteffectsofteamconflict(Brown,1983;Hackman&Morris,1975;inteamsisconcernedwithrelationshipandtaskissues(e.g.,Pondy,1967;Wall&Callister,1995).ConflicthasbeensuggestedAmason&Schweiger,1997;Cosier&Rose,1977;Guetzkow&tointerferewithteamperformanceandreducesatisfactionbecauseGyr,1
