3、ainsneglectedorunexploredbyStrauss:thatis,howthecritiqueofHeideggarianhistoricismshouldnaturallylinkwithStrausssfrequentattentiontotheissueoftheancientquar-relbetweenphilosophyandpoetry.IthasoftenbeenobservedbyothercommentatorsthatthroughHeideggerswork,philosophyappearsliabletobesup
4、plantedbycontemporaryliterature,whetherpoetryorphilosophy.AssomeofStrausssexplicitstatementsextendhisdefinitionofwhatfallsunderthecategoryofpoetryinthemod-ernagetocontemporarynovelsandpoetry,thisaspectofHeideggershouldhavecommandedmoreofhisattention.Enduranceofthequarrelbetweenphilo
5、sophyandpoetrybecomesthroughtheprismofStrausssworktheconfrontationofpoliticalphilosophywithlitera-ture,particularlythenovelform.Itwasnotsomuchtheriseofmod-ern,non-teleologicalnaturalsciencethatthreatenedtheenduranceanddignityofphilosophy,then,buttheriseofmodernliterature;thecritique
