3、amongthetopefivemetadiscoureitems;endophoricmarkersareseldomusedinthetwogroupsofcorpora.However,therealsoexistdifferencesintheuseofmetadiscourseitemsintwogroupsofcorpora.TheEnglishnewsreportersusedconsiderablymore(nearlytwice)metadiscoursedevicesthantheChinesenew
4、sreporters.Althoughtheevidentialsandtransitionsareboththemosttwofrequentlyusedcategories;inChinesecorpus,evidentialstakesthefirstplaceandtransitionstakesthesecondplace,whileinEnglishcorpus,transitionstakesthefirstplaceandevidentialstakesthesecondplace.Self-mentio
5、nsareusedinlowfrequencyinEnglishcorpus,whileinChinesecorpus;theself-mentionsarenotusedatall.Withsuchsimilaritiesanddifferencesisconcerned,thisthesisarguesthatthepossiblecausesmightbegenre,cultureandwriter’snewsperspectiveaspects.Thevalueofthestudycontainsthreepar
