2、ovidesacleardefinitionof‘languagelearningstrategy’一hestatesthatitis‘[the】mentalorbehaviouralactivityrelatedtosomespecificstagesintheoverallprocessoflanguageacquisitionorlanguageuse’．Sincethissubjectisinfavouroftheincreasinginterestinthestudent-centeredlearningapproachinlanguageeducation

3、，alotofresearchers，includingRubin(1975)，Cohen(1998)，andOxford(1990)，haveconductedanumberofstudiesconcerningthestrategiesusedbylanguagelearners，especiallyESLlearnersfromthe1970’S(GohandKwah，1997)．Thesestudiesarebasedontherationalethatifthelearningstrategiesusedbygoodlanguagelearnerscould

4、beidentified，thelessproficientlanguagelearnermaybenefitfromadoptingthesamestrategies；moreover,goodlearnerscouldbebetteronesbyusingotheravailablestrategieswhichmaybeidentified(Rubin，1975；Naiman，Frolich，TodescoandStem，1978)．However,otherresearchersduringthesameperiodnotedthatlearners’prof

5、iciencyprobablyalsoledtotheuse(orabandonment)ofsomelanguagelearningstrategies，andtheyclaimedthatproficiencyandlearningstrategymightconstituteatwo—wayinfluence(MacIntyre，1994)．Evenuptothepresentday,thisissuehasstillbeendebatedandnoclearevidenceexiststoshowwhichfactoriSthedeciderinthisrel

6、ationship．Nevertheless，somestudiesinthefollowingdecadeprovidedevidencetoshowthatlanguagelearningstrategiesindeedhaveapositiveinfluenceinsecondlanguageacquisition,thatlanguagelearners，byadoptingorpersonalizingproperlearningstrategies，couldfacilitatetheimprovementoftheirlanguage’learninga
