2、ovidesacleardefinitionof‘languagelearningstrategy’一hestatesthatitis‘[the】mentalorbehaviouralactivityrelatedtosomespecificstagesintheoverallprocessoflanguageacquisitionorlanguageuse’.Sincethissubjectisinfavouroftheincreasinginterestinthestudent-centeredlearningapproachinlanguageeducation
3、,alotofresearchers,includingRubin(1975),Cohen(1998),andOxford(1990),haveconductedanumberofstudiesconcerningthestrategiesusedbylanguagelearners,especiallyESLlearnersfromthe1970’S(GohandKwah,1997).Thesestudiesarebasedontherationalethatifthelearningstrategiesusedbygoodlanguagelearnerscould
4、beidentified,thelessproficientlanguagelearnermaybenefitfromadoptingthesamestrategies;moreover,goodlearnerscouldbebetteronesbyusingotheravailablestrategieswhichmaybeidentified(Rubin,1975;Naiman,Frolich,TodescoandStem,1978).However,otherresearchersduringthesameperiodnotedthatlearners’prof
5、iciencyprobablyalsoledtotheuse(orabandonment)ofsomelanguagelearningstrategies,andtheyclaimedthatproficiencyandlearningstrategymightconstituteatwo—wayinfluence(MacIntyre,1994).Evenuptothepresentday,thisissuehasstillbeendebatedandnoclearevidenceexiststoshowwhichfactoriSthedeciderinthisrel
6、ationship.Nevertheless,somestudiesinthefollowingdecadeprovidedevidencetoshowthatlanguagelearningstrategiesindeedhaveapositiveinfluenceinsecondlanguageacquisition,thatlanguagelearners,byadoptingorpersonalizingproperlearningstrategies,couldfacilitatetheimprovementoftheirlanguage’learninga
