3、willbethediscussionofsomesetofanthropologicalphenomena,itshouldnotsimplypresentinformation,howeverimportantandinterestingthatmaybe.Rather,andinaddition,thethesisshouldrepresentananalysisofthephenomena,atheoreticalandinterpretiveunderstandingofthem;inotherwords,
4、itshouldhavean"argument."Giventheseexpectations,yourthesisshouldhavesometheoreticalcomponent.Youmaysimplyutilizetheoreticalpropositionsandmodelstoframetheargument,toelaborateandsustaintheanalysis,andto"explain"thephenomena.Youmayperhapsthenuseyourowndataandinte
5、rpretationstocriticizeexistingtheory.Youmayevenbeabletobringtogethervarioustheoriesandformulateamoreoriginalmodel.Thedatayouanalyzemaycomefromvarioussources.Youmayreanalyzedatathathavealreadybeencollectedandpublished.Alternatively,youmayundertakeyourownresearch
6、,perhapsthroughastintinthefieldorthelaboratory.Ineithercase,youwillprobablywanttosupplementyourdatawithbackgroundlibraryandhistoricalresearch.Youwillalsoneedtobalancecomprehensivenesswithcreativeinterpretationandthelimitsoftimeandotherresources.Regardlessofthek
7、indofworkyoudo,yourgoalshouldbetoprovidethereaderwithanunderstandingoftheproblemanddata.Whatmakesyouressaya"thesis"isthatyougobeyondnarrativeanddescriptiontoincludeanalysisandargument.Whatmakesit"anthropology"isthecentralityofproblemsandphenomenarelatedtothecon
