2、torXuYuanchongandwasregardedasthestandardforpoetrytranslation,especiallyforChineseclassicalpoetrytranslation.Proseisagenremostclosetopoetry.Proseandpoetryarenotmutuallyexclusiveandincompatiblelikewaterandfire;instead,theycanbecombinedtogether.Therearesomecharacteristicsofpoetr
3、yinproseandsomeexpressionsofproseinpoetry.Chineseclassicalprose,asChineseclassicalpoetry,ischaracterizedbyitsbeautifullanguage,conciseexpression,abundantliterarygraceandprofoundartisticconception.SothetranslationofChineseclassicalprosecannotmerelybefaithfulandequaltotheorigina
4、ltext,butmoreimportanttoreproducethebeautyinthetargetlanguage.Thisthesis,adoptingthecomparisonmethodandcaseanalysismethods,analyzesZuiWengTingjiwrittenbythefamousessayistOu-YangXiuanditsEnglishversions(mainlythethreeEnglishversionstranslatedbyYangXianyi&GladysYang,LiuShiushuna
5、ndGilesrespectively),intheframeworkofXuYuanchong'sThreeBeautiesPrinciple.First,thethesisreviewstheaestheticdevelopmentinbothChinaandtheWest,theespecialemphasisonthegreatachievementofChineseaesthetictranslationhistory—XuYuanchong'sThreeBeautiesPrinciple.Then,itanalyzesthethreeb
6、eautiesoftheoriginaltextandthereproductionofthesethreebeautiesinthetranslationsinasystematicanddetailedway.FromthatwaythethesishasdrawntheconclusionthatthebeautiesoftheChineseclassicalprosecanbereproducedinthetranslationsandThreeBeautiesPrinciplecannotonlybeseveredasthetransla
