1、從語言教學的本質來看語言教學所面臨的基本問題吳明堤南台科技大學應用英語系woody@mail.stut.edu.tw摘要本文是以宏觀的角度從對語言的本質,包括語意、語音與肢體語言、文字與語法的分析與推論來探討語言教學的基本問題。語意是語言的核心,因此語言教學應從語意的理解著手。語音與肢體語言是語意的主要表達工具因此瞭解了語意就要讓學習者注意並逐漸熟悉表達該語意的語音與其配合的肢體語言。文字是語意的進階表達工具,英文是表音文字,學習英文應是以意記音、以音組字。語法是語言發展的結果而不是語言產生的原因,要多看、多聽、多讀才能體
2、會語意的表達方式。語言教育系統對語言本質的認知決定了整個語言教學的架構。我國過去語言教育走的是從文字著手,再以字學音、以中文記字義再套句型的最困難而迂迴的道路,而且編出的課文不符合英語思維方式,教學方法也不求甚解,全盤規劃構想均有待商榷。建議以例示方式從語意著手,以意記音、以音組字建立基本能力,再以多看、多聽、多讀來體會語意的表達方式。關鍵字:語言教學、語言學習、語意、語音、文字、語法、教學方法、例示AbstractHoldingamacroviewtowardslanguageeducation,thisarticles

5、nabouttheessenceoflanguagewilldeterminethesetupoftheentirelanguageeducationsystem.OurEnglishpedagogyinthepasthadwalkedonthemostdifficultandcircuitouswaybystartingfromthewrittenformofEnglishandusingittolearnthesoundsystem.MeaningisillustratedinChineseandsentencepat
6、ternsarethemajorfocusoflearning.Besides,thetextsinthetextbooksarecompiledaccordingtotheeditors’ownspeculationofwhatEnglishisratherthanwhatEnglishreallyisandhenceareprettymuchmisleading.Theso-calledcommunicativeapproachadoptedinthetextbooksissimplyatermusedwithoutt
7、horoughunderstandingandconsideration.Itcanbesaidthattheideasbehindtheentirepedagogydonotaccordwiththereality.Itissuggestedthatlanguageteachingshouldstartfrommeaning,bywayofexemplification,andteachershelptheirlearnersbuilduptheirknowledgeofthesoundsandthenusethoses
8、oundstoformwords.Itisonlyafterlearnershavebuiltuptheirbasicsenseofthelanguagethatgrammarcanbegraspedviaintensiveobservation,listeningandreading.Keywords
