2、callyinthenewmediaenvironment.Theyincludenotonlytraditionalimmigrantmediainhostcountries,butalsoavastnumberofhomelandpublicationsthatareavailableonlinetoimmigrantsandsojourners.PastresearchsuggestedthatethnicmediausedeterstheCCAprocess.Thispaperproposesthatuseofnewo
3、nlineethnicmediamayplayadifferentroleinCCA.Guidedbyusesandgratificationstheory,thisstudyinvestigateshowindividualdifferences(i.e.,hostlanguagecompetency,lengthyofstay,acculturationattitudes,andloneliness)andInternetusemotivesinfluencedethnicInternetuseofChinesestude
4、ntsintheU.S.Lengthofstay,Assimilationattitude,SocialInvolvementandEntertainmentmotivespredictedChinesestudents’ethnicInternetuse.ThestudyalsoexploredtherelationshipbetweenethnicInternetuseandCCA.Eventhoughnosignificantassociationwasfoundbetweenthetwo,theresultindica
5、tedsomeoldconclusionsreachedinthetraditionalCCAresearchmayneedtobereevaluatedintheInternetenvironment.IntroductionWithrecentdevelopmentsincommunicationtechnologiesandglobalizationoftheeconomy,cross-culturaladaptation(CCA)hasbecomeaprominentsocialphenomenonthathasatt
6、ractedmuchattentionfromscholarsofvariousdisciplines.TheconceptuallinkagebetweencommunicationandCCAhaslongbeenrecognized.Communicationisbelievedtoservesas“anessentialmechanismthatconnectspeoplefromanothercultureandthehostsociety”(Kim,1997,p.407).Severalgenerallyaccep
7、tedconclusionsregardingthecentralityofcommunicationinCCAhavebeenreachedinthepast.First,eachnewcomer’ssocialcommunicationactivityconsistsoftwobasiccommunicationprocesses:interpersonalcommunicationandmasscommunication(Kim,1977,1988).Interpersonalcommunicationisbelieve
