3、ry’sjudicialsystem. Article34oftherevisedCriminalProcedureLawofthePeople’sRepublicofChina,passedonMarch17,1996,states,“Forpublic-prosecutedcases,thecourtcandesignatealawyerwhoprovideslegalassistancetodefendtheaccusediftheaccusedfailstoappointadefenseattorneyforecon

6、itizenswhoneedlegalassistancebutcannotaffordtopayforlawyers’fees,may,inaccordancewithstateregulations,seeklegalassistanceinmatterssuchassupportingtheelderly,workplaceinjuries,criminallawsuits,statecompensation,andthegrantingofpensionsforthedisabledorsurvivorsofanacc
