2、micsresultscasebycaseandcanhardlyrevealtherelationbetweenmultiplephysicalvariables.Ontheotherhand,itisstillanopenproblemwhetherthecontinuummechanicsisvalidtothosediscretenano-componentsbynature.Ifnot,isitpossibletogetanymodifiedapproachtodealwithnano-components?Theobject
3、iveofthisdissertationistocheckthevalidityofthecontinuummechanics,especiallythecontinuumdynamics,forthenano-structuresofonedimension,suchasthecarbonnanotubesandcoppernanowires,withhelpofmoleculardynamicssimulations.Thestudiespresentedinthedissertationineludethedispersiono
4、fbothflexuralandIongitudinalwavesincarbonnanotubes,thebucklingofbothsingle-walledandmulti-walledcarbonnanotubes,theimpactofcarbonnanotubeswitharigidwall,thesizeeffectontheeffectiveYoung'smodulusofcoppernanowires,thedynamicbucklingofcoppernanowiresandtheeffectoftemperatur
5、einnano-scaleproblems.Theresultsandthemaincontributionsofthedissertationareasfollowing.1.Theflexuralwavepropagationinsingle-walledcarbonnanotubeswasstudiedthroughtheuseofthecontinuummechanicsandthemoleculardynamicssimulationbasedontheTerroff-Brennerpotential.Thestudyfocu
6、sesonthewavedispersioncausednotonlybytherotaryinertiaandthesheardeformationinthemodelofatraditionalTimoshenkobeam,butalsobythenon-localelasticitycharacterizingthemicrostructureofacarbonnanotubeinawidefrequencyrangeuptoTHz.Forthispurpose,thestudystartswiththedynamicequati
