2、nvestigatetowhatextentthecrisisleadstochangesinDutchwelfarestatepoliciesandinstitutions.Usuallythesechangesareoperationalizedintermsofretrenchment(costreduction)orrestructuring(institutions).Wefocus,however,ondevelopmentsinsocialrightsinthehopeofgainingbetterinsightintothecontentandextento

3、fpolicychange.Thisperspectivecombinesattentionforcostsandinstitutionalstructurewithattentionforthecontentandsubstanceofsocialrights.WestartbyanalyzingthedevelopmentofsocialrightsintheDutchwelfarestateasareactiontotheeconomiccrisisofthe1970sand1980s.Consequently,wewillanalyzecurrentpercepti

4、onsofsocialrisksandsocialrightsaswellashowwethinktheseperceptionswillbeaffectedbythepressuresbroughtonbytheeconomiccrisisof2008–09.Usinganinstitutionalperspective,weexaminetheconsequencesofthecurrenteconomiccrisisforperceptionsofsocialcitizenshipandentitlementtosocialriskprotectionwithinth
