PrideandPrejudiceTheAuthorJaneAusten(16December1775–18July1817)wasanEnglishnovelistwhoserealism,bitingsocialcommentaryandmasterfuluseoffreeindirectspeech,burlesqueandironyhaveearnedheraplaceasoneofthemostwidely-readandbest-lovedwritersinBritishliterature.Austenlivedherentirelifeaspartofalargeandclose-knitfamilylocatedonthelowerfringesofEnglishgentry.Shewaseducatedprimarilybyherfatherandolderbrothersaswellasthroughherownreading.Austen'sartisticapprenticeshiplastedfromherteenageyearsuntilshewasaboutthirty-fiveyearsold.Duringthisperiod,shewrotethreemajornovelsandbeganafourth.From1811until1815,withthereleaseofSenseandSensibility(1811),PrideandPrejudice(1813),MansfieldPark(1814)andEmma(1815),sheachievedsuccessasapublishedwriter.Shewrotetwoadditionalnovels,NorthangerAbbey(writtenin1798and1799andrevisedlater)andPersuasion,bothpublishedafterherdeathin1817,andbeganathird(eventuallytitledSanditon),butdiedbeforecompletingit.Duringherlifetime,Austen'sworksbroughtherlittlefameandonlyafewpositivereviews.Throughthemid-nineteenthcentury,hernovelswereadmiredonlybyaliteraryelite.However,thepublication ofhernephew'sAMemoiroftheLifeofJaneAusten,in1870,introducedherlifeandworkstoawiderpublic.Bythe1940s,Austenwasfirmlyensconcedinacademiaasa"greatEnglishwriter",andthesecondhalfofthetwentiethcenturysawaproliferationofAustenscholarshipthatexploredmanyaspectsofhernovels:artistic,ideological,andhistorical.Currently,Austen'sworksareamongthemoststudiedanddebatedoeuvresinthefieldofacademicliterarycriticism.[citationneeded]Inpopularculture,aJaneitefanculturehasdeveloped,centredonAusten'slife,herworks,andthevariousfilmandtelevisionadaptationsofthem.Learning“YouarethelastmanintheworldwhomIcouldeverbe-persuadedtomarry.”ElizabethcriedtoMr.Darcy.Thewordsarefimilairtousandwewillbeshockedbythewords,becauseitwaswhatElizabethsaid,andwhatMr.Darcyheard.Ihaveseenalltheeditionsofthefilm.ButIwasabsorbedinthebookdeeplywhenIfirstreadit.Ilovedthestoryverymuchnotforitsromancebutforthecharacteroftheladiesandmen.Asweallknow,ElizabethandDarcyaretwofamouscharactersnomatterintheliteratureortheart.Wecanseemanytrancesofthat timefromthem.Thebookshowsusnotonlytheromanceandthepersistentforlove,butthesocietyatthattime.Wecanlearntheetiquette,customandthewaypeoplelived.Thebookannotatedtherelationshipanddifferencesbetweenthepoorandtherichverywell,andthewordsandthoughtsallreflectedwhatthepeopletriedtoacquireatthattime.Itisasocialbookworthreading.Ilovedthestory,especiallyElizabeth,thewise,smartandprettylady.Theremarkablefeatureoftheladyisthatshewasdifferentfromallhersistersbecauseofherthought,behevorandwisedom.Shedaredtodowhatshecouldn’t,persistwhatsheshouldn’t,andlovewhatshereallywanted.Hercouragesurprisedme,andherpersistentshockedme,andherself-esteemandself-respectmovedme.Inthereality,maybemanygirlswholackofcouragedarenottopersistbecauseofthekindsofforces.IlovethecharacterofElizabethbecauseofhercourageandwisedomwhichmanypeopleshouldhave.Also,IappreciateMr.Darcy,thehandsomegentlemen.Inthebeginningofthestory,ElizabethandDarcyhaddeepmisunderstandings.ElizabeththoughtDarcywasproud,andDarcyhadprejudicetoElizabeth,sotheycouldn’taccepteachother.WhenElizabethcriedtoDarcy,Iwasalittlesad,becausethewordsweresoharmful.ThetitleprideandprejudicemaybecalledDarcyandElizabeth.Whatjumpedintomymindwasthatthecommunicationwassoimportantandneccessary. Thereasonthatthestorywassocomplicatedwasthattheylearnedeachotheralwaysbyhearingandseeing,notbytheheartsandthemselves.Inthereality,wealwaysmisunderstandourfiendsandfamilybecauseoflackingofthegoodwaywecommunicate.Thestoryhasahappyending,butmanytimesinreality,itwillhappensintheoppositedirection.Ontheotherhand,Ithinkthegirlshouldbeindependentphysicallyandmentally.Ifwewantgetwhatwewant,wemustbestronginmind.Sometimeswewillbeintrouble,sometimeswewillbedistressed,butweshouldneverbenegative.Weshouldpersistinwhatwewant,whatweneedandwhatwelove,andwemustmakeeffortstomakeourdreamcometruenotonlyforlove,butforthedestinationofourlife.
