whenhewasmakingaproposaltoagirlheloved,Mr.Darcystillactedproudly,arrogantlyanddisgustingly.Hetalkedhisloveandshowedhisheartedbyemphasizingherinferiorityineveryaspectslikefamilyandhisgreatnessanduneasinesstopersuadehimselftobreakallthesocialrules.ElizabethrefusedhimnotonlybecauseofhispretentiousandinsolentwordsbutalsobecauseofhisignobleinvolvementandbehaviorstobothWickhamandMr.Bingley.Sheaccusedhimofhisunforgivabledeedsinafuryandendedheraccusationwithanassertionthatshewouldnotmarryhim.Mr.Darcywasalsoamazedatheranswersandthenquicklyleftherroom.Aftertheproposal,Elizabethcalmeddownandfelteverythingunbelievable.ShetriedtokeepawayfromMr.Darcyinordertoavoidunnecessaryembarrassment.ButMr.Darcyfoundherandgaveheralettertoexplainwhatshehadaccusedhimof.Atthefirst,headmittedthatheinvolvedinthebreakupofhersisterandMr.Bingleybecausehethoughthersisterdidn’tloveMr.BingleyasMr.Bingleylovedher.AndhethoughtherfamilymemberwereuncouthwhichwouldputMr.Bingleyintroubleinthefuture.Secondly,he justifiedhimselfintermsofWickham.WhathappenedinthepastbetweenthemwasexactlytheoppositeofwhatWickhamhadtoldher.Inhisdescription,itwasWickhamthatturneddownwhatMr.Darcyofferedhim;itwasalsoWickhamthatsquanderedallmoneybygamblinganddrinkingalcoholandwantedMissDarcy’smoneygreedilybydeceivingherintomarryinghimsecretly.Wickhamwassuchanevilmanwhofooledeveryone.Afterreadingthisletter,ElizabethwasforcedherselftoregardasanotherlieofMr.Darcy,butshesoonfoundthateverythinghesaidwasrational.Hersisterwassoreservedandshenevershowedhertruefeelingseventoherdearsister,soitwasnowanderMr.DarcytoreckonthatJanedidn’tlovehisfriend.AlsoWickham’spursuittoMissKingseemedtoindicatethatwhathepursuedwasnotayoung,brilliantgirlbutthemoneyshehad.Elizabeth,previouslyheldstrongdisliketoMr.DarcyandstrongaffectiontoWickham,wasforcedtoadmitMr.Darcy’sobservationandreflectonherselfaboutwhethershehadmisjudgepeople.ItwasthefirsttimethatElizabethrealizedherprejudiceinjudgingpeople.WhenElizabethandJanefinallywenthome,
