3、fpapersconcerningconceptualmetaphors．Butuptonow,therehasnevereverpublishedanythesiswhosefocusisonthemetaphorsturningupinTEDspeech．TEDspeechprovidespeoplewithrichandnovelmetaphorsources．Asaresult，theresearchtakestheconceptualmetaphorsasthecoretheoryandmakesfulluseofthequali

4、tativeanalysisandquantitativeanalysistoelaborateonthemetaphorscollectedfromTEDSpeech，especiallytheEntertainmentSpeech．Inordertoaccomplishthegoals，themainresearchquestionstobesolvedinthisthesisarelistedasfollows：(1)WhatarethefrequentlyusedmetaphoricalexpressionsinEntertainm

5、entSpeech?(2)HowmanytypesofmetaphordoEntertainmentSpeechembrace?Whataretheyandhowabouttheirfrequencyofusagerespectively?(3)WhatarethedefiningcharacteristicsandpragmaticalfunctionofmetaphorsinEntertainmentSpeech?Inthisthesis，whatisfullofsignificanceisthecollectionofdata．Alt

6、ogether,37entertainmentspeecheshavebeencollectedtoserveasthecorpusfromJan．2012toApr．2014．Aftertheassiduouseffort，intotal386sentencesrelatedtoconceptualmetaphorshavebeenpickedoutandtheconnectedmetaphoricalrealizationshavebeensortedout．Basedonthedistinguishedsourcedomain，the

7、corpushasbeendividedinto1types，namely,containermetaphor,timemetaphor,up—downmetaphor,joumeymetaphor,humanmetaphor,warmetaphor,buildingmetaphor,plantmetaphor,liquidmetaphor,foodmetaphor,andaswellasmachinemetaphor．Onbasisofthisdivision，theauthortakesadvantageofqualitativeana
