2、rldaroundthemandnamesaretheendproductsofdifferentcategorizationprocesses.Thecognitivecategoryisdifferentfromthetraditionalcategoryinthatthecognitivecategoryholdsthatthecategoryisaflexiblementalconstructionwithafuzzyboundaryandaprototypeandshouldbeinstantiatedinacognitivemodel.Thesefeaturesarereflec
3、tedintheuniquefeaturesofantiquenames,suchasjuxtapositionoffigureandname,considerablelengthandrichcultureconnotations.Cognitivetranslationdifferswidelyfromtraditionallinguisticschooloftranslationinthatfromtheperspectiveofcognitivelinguistics,translationsrenderedbythetranslatorundergotwoprocesses:int
4、erpretationandcomparison.Thementalrepresentationacquiredfromtheinterpretationisinstantiatedinanoptimalcognitivemodelchosenbythetranslatorafterhe/shecomparesanumberofdifferentcognitivemodels.Theinstantiationprocessprofilesthetranslator’Smentalrepresentationagainstachosencognitivemodel,makingsomepart
5、softhementalrepresentationsalientwhilecoveringsomepartsofthementalrepresentationinthecognitivemodel.DuetothecognitivedifferencesbetweentheChineselanguagecommunityandtheEnglishlanguagecommunityandthedifferencesbetweenChineselanguagecognitivecommunities,translatorsencountermanydifficultiesintranslati
6、ngantiquenames,suchasunificationoftheEnglishtranslationofantiquenames,culturedifferencesanddifferencesinnounconstructions.Inordertoovercomethesedifficultiesandconveyeffectivelythefineelementsinantiquenames,thetranslatortakesthecognitiverequirementastheguidingprincipleandutilizesthecharacteristicsof
