2、tolearnEnglish.BoththeteachersandthelearnershavetriedavarietyofstrategiesinordertoachievehighproficiencyofEnglish.Languageisatoolforcommunicationanditcanonlyrealizeitsfunctionwhenitisusedindifferentrealisticcommunicativecontexts.Thus,tolearnaforeignlanguagesuccessfullymeanstoacquiretheskill
3、ofusingthetargetlanguageproperlyandexactlyindifferentsocialsituations.Inordertoachievethisfinalaim,productivevocabularyandfluentusageofallgrammaticalrulesinsentencesmakingbecomeespeciallyimportantinlearningaforeignlanguage.Andinthedevelopmentandacquisitionoftheskill,recitationplaysaveryimpo
4、rtantroleinChinawherethelearnershavetheirownparticularlearningbackgroundandtraditionallearningstrategy.InChina,EnglishcanonlybelearnedasaforeignlanguageinsteadofasecondlanguagesincethereisnoEnglishlanguageenvironmentatall.Inordertomakethelearnersacquirethelanguageskillseffectively,different
5、learningstrategieshavebeenusedinthepastyears.Thesestrategiesincludegrammaticaltranslation,directapproach,thesituationalapproach,listeningandspeakingapproachandthecommunicativemethodology.BecauseofthevarietyofteachingstrategyintroducedintoChina,recitationastheChinesetraditionallearningstrate
6、gyissubmergedandabandoned.Inthispaper,thewriterreviewstherelatedlanguagelearningtheoriesandtheviistudiesofrecitationandattemptstoexplorealearningstrategywhichispracticalfortheChineseEnglishlearnersatthebasicstageincollege.Thatis“extensiverecitation”,whichisbasedonthetheoryof“inputhypothesis
