2、lege,allthestudents,includingtheEnglishmajorsandthenon-Englishmajors,havetolearnEnglish.BoththeteachersandthelearnershavetriedavarietyofstrategiesinordertoachievehighproficiencyofEnglish.Languageisatoolforcommunicationanditcanonlyrealizeitsfunctionwhenitis
3、usedindifferentrealisticcommunicativecontexts.Thus,tolearnaforeignlanguagesuccessfullymeanstoacquiretheskillofusingthetargetlanguageproperlyandexactlyindifferentsocialsituations.Inordertoachievethisfinalaim,productivevocabularyandfluentusageofallgrammatica
4、lrulesinsentencesmakingbecomeespeciallyimportantinlearningaforeignlanguage.Andinthedevelopmentandacquisitionoftheskill,recitationplaysaveryimportantroleinChinawherethelearnershavetheirownparticularlearningbackgroundandtraditionallearningstrategy.InChina,En
5、glishcanonlybelearnedasaforeignlanguageinsteadofasecondlanguagesincethereisnoEnglishlanguageenvironmentatall.Inordertomakethelearnersacquirethelanguageskillseffectively,differentlearningstrategieshavebeenusedinthepastyears.Thesestrategiesincludegrammatical
6、translation,directapproach,thesituationalapproach,listeningandspeakingapproachandthecommunicativemethodology.BecauseofthevarietyofteachingstrategyintroducedviiintoChina,recitationastheChinesetraditionallearningstrategyissubmergedandabandoned.Inthispaper,th
7、ewriterreviewstherelatedlanguagelearningtheoriesandthestudiesofrecitationandattemptstoexplorealearningstrategywhichispracticalfortheChineseEnglishlearnersatthebasicstageincollege.Thatis“extensiverecitation”,whichisbasedonthetheoryof“inputhypothesis”andacco
8、rdswiththecognitiveprocessofhumanmind.Itisrealizedonthebasisofcomprehensionandappreciation.Thelearnersmustfirstreadextensivelyaccordingtotheirowninterest,andthenchoosesomepartsfromthereadingmaterialtorecite.L
