2、entingagentinpavementsisthemostcommonofitsapplications,however,andtheonethatwillbeconsideredhere.Asphaltproductsareusedtoproduceflexiblepavementsforhighwaysandairports.Theterm“flexible”isusedtodistinguishthesepavementsfromthosemadewithPortlandcement,whicharec
3、lassifiedasrigidpavements,thatis,havingbeamstrength.Thisdistinctionisimportantbecauseitprovidestheykeytothedesignapproachwhichmustbeusedforsuccessfulflexiblepavementstructures.Theflexiblepavementclassificationmaybefurtherbrokendownintohighandlowtypes,thetypeu
4、suallydependingonwhetherasolidorliquidasphaltproductisused.Thelowtypesofpavementaremadewiththecutback,oremulsion,liquidproductsandareverywidelyusedthroughoutthiscountry.Descriptiveterminologyhasbeendevelopedinvarioussectionsofthecountrytotheextentthatonepavem
5、enttypemayhaveseveralnames.However,thegeneralprocessfollowedinconstructionissimilarformostlow-typepavementsandcanbedescribedasoneinwhichtheaggregateandtheasphaltproductareusuallyappliedtotheroadbedseparatelyandtheremixedorallowedtomix,formingthepavement.Thehi
