2、vementsisthemostcommonofitsapplications,however,andtheonethatwillbeconsideredhere.Asphaltproductsareusedtoproduceflexiblepavementsforhighwaysandairports.Theterm“flexible”isusedtodistinguishthesepavementsfromthosemadewithPortlandcement,whichareclassifiedasrigidpavements,thatis,havingbe
3、amstrength.Thisdistinctionisimportantbecauseitprovidestheykeytothedesignapproachwhichmustbeusedforsuccessfulflexiblepavementstructures.Theflexiblepavementclassificationmaybefurtherbrokendownintohighandlowtypes,thetypeusuallydependingonwhetherasolidorliquidasphaltproductisused.Thelowty
4、pesofpavementaremadewiththecutback,oremulsion,liquidproductsandareverywidelyusedthroughoutthiscountry.Descriptiveterminologyhasbeendevelopedinvarioussectionsofthecountrytotheextentthatonepavementtypemayhaveseveralnames.However,thegeneralprocessfollowedinconstructionissimilarformostlow
5、-typepavementsandcanbedescribedasoneinwhichtheaggregateandtheasphaltproductareusuallyappliedtotheroadbedseparatelyandtheremixedorallowedtomix,formingthepavement.Thehightypeofasphaltpavementsismadewithasphaltcementsofsomeselectedpenetrationgrade.附录Fig.·1Amodernasphaltconcretehighway.Sh
