2、vementsforhighwaysandairports.Theterm“flexible”isusedtodistinguishthesepavementsfromthosemadewithPortlandcement,whichareclassifiedasrigidpavements,thatis,havingbeamstrength.Thisdistinctionisimportantbecauseitprovidestheykeytothedesignapproachwhichmustbeusedforsuccessfulflexiblepavementstructure
3、s.Theflexiblepavementclassificationmaybefurtherbrokendownintohighandlowtypes,thetypeusuallydependingonwhetherasolidorliquidasphaltproductisused.Thelowtypesofpavementaremadewiththecutback,oremulsion,liquidproductsandareverywidelyusedthroughoutthiscountry.Descriptiveterminologyhasbeendevelopedinv
4、arioussectionsofthecountrytotheextentthatonepavementtypemayhaveseveralnames.However,thegeneralprocessfollowedinconstructionissimilarformostlow-typepavementsandcanbedescribedasoneinwhichtheaggregateandtheasphaltproductareusuallyappliedtotheroadbedseparatelyandtheremixedorallowedtomix,formingthep
