3、I.IntroductionInthe20s-30softhe20thcentury,thestudyofcross-culturalcommunicationhasdrawninterestintheUSA.Itfocusesontheproblemsarisingfromcommunicationbetweenpeopleofdifferentculturalbackgroundsandseekssolutiontotheseproblems.TheaimsofEnglishteaching,inthesame
4、way,aretoenablestudentstomasterthepurelanguageandtocommunicatewiththepeoplefromtheEnglish-speakingcountries.However,becauseofthedifferencesinallaspectsofcustom,wayofthinking,norm,valueandetc.,Englishlearnersoftenmakemistakesbyapplyingtheirownculturetotheforeig
5、none.Itisthegreatestobstacleforthefailureinsuccessfulcommunication.ItalsodemonstratesthedefectofourEnglishteaching---lackofculturalawareness.EnglishteachinginChina,especiallyinmiddleandhighschool,followsastereotypedmodel,thatisword—phrase—sentencepattern,withl
