3、essinEnglishTeachingI.IntroductionInthe20s-30softhe20thcentury,thestudyofcross-culturalcommunicationhasdrawninterestintheUSA.Itfocusesontheproblemsarisingfromcommunicationbetweenpeopleofdifferentculturalbackgroundsandseekssolutiontotheseproblems.TheaimsofEnglishteach
4、ing,inthesameway,aretoenablestudentstomasterthepurelanguageandtocommunicatewiththepeoplefromtheEnglish-speakingcountries.However,becauseofthedifferencesinallaspectsofcustom,wayofthinking,norm,valueandetc.,Englishlearnersoftenmakemistakesbyapplyingtheirownculturetothe
5、foreignone.Itisthegreatestobstacleforthefailureinsuccessfulcommunication.ItalsodemonstratesthedefectofourEnglishteaching---lackofculturalawareness.EnglishteachinginChina,especiallyinmiddleandhighschool,followsastereotypedmodel,thatisword—phrase—sentencepattern,withle
