3、nanddecidedtounanimouslyupholdit.Oneimportantconsequenceoftoday’sdecisionisthat,whileLulacanappealthedecisiontosuperiorcourts,heisnowconsideredineligible-althoughhecanstillaskfortheregistrationofhiscandidacyby15August.Giventheunanimousdecision,Lulacannotrequestabroadreassessmentofthe

4、verdictitself("embargosinfringentes"asitisknowninjudicialtermsinBrazil).Thenextstepforthelawyersoftheformerpresidentistorequestfor“clarification”abouttheverdict.Thisrequestusuallydelaysthewrittendecisionbyabout20days,butdoesnotchangethedecisionitself.LulacanappealtotheFollowingthefin

5、aldecisionoftheAppealsCourt,Lulacanstillappealtothesuperiorcourtsuperiorcourt(STJ),andfinallytotheSupremeCourt(STF).However,thedecisionofturningLulaineligiblewouldremaininplacewhilethesuperiorcourtsreassessit.Althoughineligible,LulaTheelectorallawallowsLulatostartthecampaigneventhoug

6、hheisultimatelyineligible.canstartcampaigningDespitebeingfoundguilty,Lulacanseekregistrationuntil15August.EverycandidatereceivesatemporarypermittostarttheofficialcampaignwhiletheElectoralCourtassesseseligibility.ThefullprocessisdescribedinTable1andcouldtakeabout20daysorlonger.Thecamp
