3、oardsymbolsandabbreviationsarecommontypesofInternetslang.Newdialectsofslang,suchasleet,developasingroupinternetmemesratherthantimesavers.OriginsInternetslangoriginatedintheearlydaysoftheInternetwithsometermspredatingtheInternet.Internetslangisusedinchatrooms,socialnetworks,onli
4、negames,videogamesandintheonlinecommunity.Since1979,usersofcommunicationsnetworkslikeUsenetcreatedtheirownshorthand.InpopcultureIntheEnglish-speakingworld,examplesincludetheword‘bazinga’fromtheCBSshowTheBigBangTheoryand,inJapanese,thetermmoehascomeintocommonuseamongslangusersto
5、meansomethingextremelycuteandappealing.Asidefromthemorefrequentlyfoundabbreviations,acronymsandemoticons,Internetslangisalsobasedonarchaicwordsorthelesser-knowndialectalcounterpartsofaterminmainstreamlanguage.Regularwordscanalsobealteredintosomethingwithasimilarpronunciationbut
6、altogetherdifferentmeaning,orattributednewmeaningsaltogether.Phonetictranscriptionsofforeignwords,suchasthetransformationof‘impossible’into‘impossibru’inJapaneseandthenbacktoEnglish,isalsoobserved.InplaceswherelogographiclanguagesareusedsuchasChina,avisualvarietyofInternetslang
7、isalsoobservable,whereacharacterhasadualityinmeaning-directandimplied.MotivationsTheprimarymotivationbehindusingaslanguniquetotheInternetistoeasecommunication.However,whileInternetslangshortcutssavetimeforthewriter,theytaketwotimesaslongforthereadertounderstand.Ontheotherhand,s
