1、InterculturalcommunicationandtranslationInterculturalcommunicationmainlyreferstothecommunicationbetweenthenativespeakersandnon-nativespeakers,aswellasthecommunicationbetweenpeoplewhodifferinanyaspectoflanguageorculturebackground.Duetothedifferencesinsurroundings,societiesandrelig

2、ionsofdifferentethnicgroups,eachlanguagecommunityresultsinitsowncodeoflanguage,socialculture,customsandpracticesandsoon.Interculturalcommunicationstudiessituationswhenpeoplefromdifferentculturebackgroundsinteract.Asidefromlanguage,ICfocusesonsocialattributes,thoughtpatternsandthe

3、culturesofdifferentgroupsofpeople.ICalsoinvolvesunderstandingthedifferentcultures,languagesandcustomsofpeoplefromothercountries.TherearethreeformatsofIC:interracialcommunication(whensourceandreceiveraredifferentraces),interethniccommunication(situationinwhichthepartiesareofthesam

4、eracebutofdifferentethnicorigins)andintraculturalcommunication(communicationbetweenmembersofthesamecultureincludingracial,ethnicandotherco-cultures).Thetermtranslationitselfhasseveralmeanings:itcanrefertothegeneralsubjectfield,theproduct(thetextthathasbeentranslated)ortheprocess(

5、theactofproducingthetranslation,otherwiseknownastranslating).Theprocessoftranslatingbetweentwodifferentwrittenlanguagesinvolvesthetranslatorchanginganoriginalwrittentext(thesourcetext)intheoriginalverballanguage(thesourcelanguage)intoawrittentext(thetargettext)inadifferentverball

6、anguage(thetargetlanguage).Thistypecorrespondsto“interlingualtranslation”andisoneofthethreeRomanJakobsoninhisseminalpaper.Jakobson’scategoriesare:1.Intralingualtranslation,or“rewording”–aninterpretationofverbalsignsbymeansofothersignsofthesamelanguage;2.Interlingualtranslation,or

7、“translationproper”–aninterpretationofverbalsignsbymeansofsomeotherlanguage;3.Intersemiotictranslation,or“transmutation”–aninterpretationofverbalsignsbymeansofsignsofnon-verbalsignsystems.Intralingualtranslationwouldoccurwhenwerephraseanexpressionortextinthesamelanguagetoexplaino
