3、astheautomateddesignofsuchsystemsisconcerned,methodsfordesigningtimereducingandlimitingthecomplexityofthetaskaresoughtoutandapplied.Amethodofthekindisconnectedwiththedecompositionandhierarchyprinciples.Thedecompositionofthesystemsisrealizedinaway,whichdifferentiatesfunctionallyindependentmodul

4、es.Adigitalsystemcanbedescribedasamodulewithinputsand/oroutputs.Theelectricalvaluesontheoutputsaresomefunctionofthevaluesontheinputs.Onewayofdescribingthefunctionofamoduleistodescribehowitiscomposedofsub-modules.Eachofthesub-modulesisaninstanceofsomeentity,andtheportsoftheinstancesareconnected

5、usingsignals.Thiskindofdescriptioniscalledastructuraldescription.Inmanycases,itisnotappropriatetodescribeamodulestructurally.Onesuchcaseisamodule,whichisatthebottomofthehierarchyofsomeotherstructuraldescription.Forexample,ifyouaredesigningasystemusingICpackagesboughtfromanICshop,youdonotneedto

6、describetheinternalstructureofanIC.Insuchcases,adescriptionofthefunctionperformedbythemoduleisrequired,withoutreferencetoitsactualinternalstructure.Suchadescriptioniscalledafunctionalorbehavioraldescription.Usually,forstructuralandbehavioraldescription,eitherVerilogorVHDLisused.Inthispaperades
