3、ols,orspecializeddevicesthroughvariableprogrammedmotionsfortheperformanceofavarietyoftasks.Notethatthisdefinitioncontainsthewordsreprogrammableandmultifunctional.Itisthesetwocharacteristicsthatseparatethetrueindustrialrobotfromthevarioussingle-purposemachinesusedinmodernmanufacturingfirm

4、s.Theterm“reprogrammable”impliestwothings:Therobotoperatesaccommodateavarietyofmanufacturingtasks.Theterm“multifunctional”meansthattherobotcan,throughreprogrammingandtheuseofdifferentend-effectors,performanumberofdifferentmanufacturingtasks.Definitionswrittenaroundthesetwocriticalcharact

5、eristicsarebecomingtheaccepteddefinitionsamongmanufacturingprofessionals.Thefirstarticulatedarmcameaboutin1951andwasusedbytheU.S.AtomicEnergyCommission.In1954,thefirstprogrammablerobotwasdesignedbyGeorgeDevil.Itwasbasedontwoimportanttechnologies:Numericalcontrol(NC)technology.Remotemanip

6、ulatortechnology.Numericalcontroltechnologyprovidedaformofmachinecontrolideallysuitedtorobots.Itallowedforthecontrolofmotionbystoredprograms.Theseprogramscontaindatapointstowhichtherobotsequentiallymoves,timingsignalstoinitiateactionandtostopmovement,andlogicstatementstoallowfordecisionm
