4、romthevarioussingle-purposemachinesusedinmodernmanufacturingfirms.Thetermreprogrammab1e"impliestwothings:Therobotoperatesaccommodateavarietyofmanufacturingtasks.Theterm^multifunctional"meansthattherobotcan,throughreprogrammingandtheuseofdifferentend-effectors,perform

5、anumberofdifferentmanufacturingtasks.Definitionswrittenaroundthesetwocriticalcharacteristicsarebecomingtheaccepteddefinitionsamongmanufacturingprofessionals.Thefirstarticulatedarmcameaboutin1951andwasusedbytheU.S.AtomicEnergyCommission.In1954,thefirstprogrammablerobo

6、twasdesignedbyGeorgeDevil.Itwasbasedontwoimportanttechnologies:Numericalcontrol(NC)technology.Remotememipulatortechnology.Numericalcontroltechnologyprovidedaformofmachinecontrolideallysuitedtorobots.Itallowedforthecontrolofmotionbystoredprograms.Theseprogramscontaind
