2、gulationandlife-style.Intheend,resultinginourinterculturalcommunicationappearobstacles.Cultureofourinfluenceissubtle,buttheformationoftheconceptisdeeplyingrainedIalsohavesomeexperiencesaboutinterculturalcommunicationbarriers.Oneday,Iwalkintheparkwithmyfriends,metaforeignstudent.Wemadeagreeting,an
3、dthenmyfriendaskedhim,“Haveyoueatenyet?”Theforeignstudentsareverystrange,hesaid,“Whydoyoualwaysaskmeeatenyet?Ihavethemoney.”Tohiswayofthinking,peoplewereconcernedthathewasnotgettinghismealsproperlybecauseoflackofmoney.ToAmericans,thisgreetingmightmeanthis:“Ihaven'teither.Comeon,let’sgotogetherand
4、getsomethingtoeat.”or“Ifyouhaven’t,Iwasjustgoingtoinviteyoutomyplace.”Inotherwords,itcouldindicateaninvitationtoameal.SoIexplainedtohim,ask“didyoueat”inChinaismeantosay“hello”.ThisistheCommonwayofgreetinginChina.Havetheexperience,everytimeImeetaforeignfriend,Ijustsay"hello".Similarly,oneday,Iwith
5、myfriendsintheirclass,onaproblem,theteacheraskedwhetherunderstand,afewIndianssittingbehindbegantoshakehead,theteacherspokeonetimeagain,thenaskedstudentswhetherunderstand,thosestudentsinIndiaisstillshookhishead.TheteacherknewtheywereIndians,reactiontocomeoverthemisunderstood.InIndia,shakinghishead
6、meansaffirmative.Throughthisexperience,Ibroadenedmyhorizonandrememberthatdeeply,inordertoavoidencounteredasimilarsituationlater.Althoughwewillinevitablyencountersomeobstaclesintheinterculturalcommunication,butthisdoesnotaffectthefriendshipbetweenourpeoples.Interculturalcommunicationhasaverywidera
7、ngeofapplications.Itiswidelyusedindiplomacy,trade,internationalbusiness,internationaltourismandfolkdiplomacy,teachingChineselanguageandculture,foreignculturecommunication,humanresourcemanagement,businessmanagement,fore
