3、erogeneoussmallmolecularweightI~NA.Asequencehomologyofgreaterthan96percentwasobservedbetweenthe6.8Mdspeciesfromthetwoviruses.The0.68MdRNAisapparentlyanintravirion,subgenomic,polyadenylatedmoleculebasedonRNAsestudies,oligo(dT)-cellulosechromatography,andhybridizationtoaeDNAcloneofthe3'ter
4、minal1.19Kbregionofthebovinecoronavirusgenome.IntroductionThebovineentericcoronavirus(BCV)causesasevereenteritisinyoungcalves(18).Thehumanrespiratorycoronavirus0C43(HCV0C43)causesonlyamildupperrespiratorydiseaseinhumansofallages(16).Recentevidencesuggeststhatthesevirusesarestructurallycl
5、oselyrelated.Bothagglutinateerythrocytesfrommice,rats,andchickens(10,15,19),andbothshareantigensasdeterminedbyimmunofluorescence(20).Nobiologicalorstructuraldataexiststorigorouslydifferentiatebetweentheseviruses.Becauseasignificantfractionofthehumanpopulation(7to69percent)bothinEuropeand
6、theUnitedStatescarryantibodiesthatareabletoneutralize,immunoprecipitate,andindirectlyimmunofluorescethebovinecoronavirus(22),thepossibilityexiststhattilebovinecorona~drust02W.LA~2PSandD.A.B~tA~:andthehumancoronavirus0C43aretwonamesforthesameviruswithzoonoticpotential.Inthisreportwedescri
