3、orpublicationMarch9,1988)SummaryAviruswhichproducedcytopathiceffectwithsyncytiumformationwasisolatedfromthefaecesofapparentlyhealthymicebymousebraintumourcellculture,DBTcells.Theisolatewasvirologicallyandserologicallyidentifiedasmousecoronavirus.ItgrewwellinDBTcells,andformedc

4、learplaquesmuchsmallerinsizethanthoseofotherlow-virulentstrains.Inexperimentalinfections,theisolatecouldproduceonlyamildhepatitisincortisone-treatedweanlingmice.Fatalhepatitiswasnotobservedeveninmicetreatedwith10mgcortisone;whereasmanymicewerekilledbyotherlow-virulentstrains.K

6、easessuchasacutehepatitis,encephalomyelitis,infantdiarrhoeaandwastingsyndromeinathymicnudemice.However,MHVstrainsvarygreatlyintheirpathogenicity,andtheclinicalcourseoftheinfectiondependsonthevirusstrain,routeofinfectionandmanyhostfactors(1,2).Undernaturalconditions,MHVinfectio

7、nseemstobesubclinicalinmostcases.Thevirusishighlycontagiousandprobablytransmittedbyrespiratoryororo-faecalroutes(1,2,13,24).Concerningthelatterroute,entericinfectionofMHVstrains(4-6,9,18,22)andvirusexcretioninfaeces(13,22)havebeenreported.Recently,wehaveencounteredanMHVinfecti
