2、s’constantefforts.Thispaper,thoughoflittlelength,isaventuretotakeasnapshotatthedevelopmentsofmetaphorstudyoverhistoryandfourapproaches,i.e.rhetorical,poetic,cognitiveandgrammatical,aretakenintoaccountinthispapertoprovideaninterfacethatlinksmetaphorinHallidayansensewithmetaphorsfromalternative

3、perspectives.ArhetoricalperspectiveTherhetorical,alsocalledtheclassicalviewsinceitcanbetracedbacktoAristotle’swritingsaboutmetaphorportraysmetaphorasadeparturefromnormallanguage,effectingadecorationtoplainlanguageineverydayuseandanunexpectedaestheticbeautytowritings.Inthisrespecttheaudienceis

4、requiredofspecialcapacitytointerpretthemetaphoricalitems.Studyofmetaphorinviewofrhetoriccontinueditswaythroughthelonghistory,andtodayitisstillapuzzlingsubjectinmodernrhetoricandstylistics.Inaddition,thisapproach,givenitsdeep-rootedinfluenceoverthepasttwothousandyearsormore,maybethemostpopular

5、amongnon-researcherssincemetaphor,asitwere,hasbeentraditionallyviewedasafigureofspeechinvolvingameaningtransferencefromaword’sliteralmeaninginrhetoricaltheory,andsoisdefinedinmostdictionaries.Thismodel,however,isoutofvogueamongtoday’slinguistsandotherresearchersaswell.Moreandmoreeffortisspare

6、dtoexaminetheroleplayedbymetaphorfromdifferentperspectivessuchaslinguistics,psychology,philosophyandotherdisciplines.ApoeticperspectivePoetryhasalwaysoccupiedagreatpositionineveryculture,andmetaphorisconsideredasthemostimportantelementinpoeticproductionandissaidtohavereacheditsmostsophisticat
