3、reignlanguage.Inrecentyears,filmsubtitletranslationhasreceivedwideattention.ThispartprovidesarelativelycomprehensivereviewintheoriesofthetranslationofChinesefilmsubtitlingintoEnglish.Manyscholarsandexpertshavenoticedtheculturalfactorsthataffectfilmsubtitletranslation,soth
4、eyhaveattachedmuchimportancetoculturalfactorsintheprocessoftranslatingfilmsubtitle.Attheturnofthenineteenthcentury,thestudyofculturalanthropologysuggestedthatthelinguisticbarrierwereinsuperableandlanguagewasentirelytheproductofculture.Forthetranslationofculturalfactors,“i
5、fattemptedtotranslateitatall,translationmustbeasliteralaspossible”(Newmark45).Eugene.ANida,averyfamousAmericantranslationtheorist,emphasizes“closestnaturalequivalence”and“naturalnessofexpression”.Thatrequires“thetranslatedversionsshouldbeidiomatic,natural,andeasytobeaccep
6、tedbyreaders,whichtendtolanguageisjustatooltocommunicate.Themorereadersunderstandthebetter.Inthiswaythecultureofthesourcelanguagewillsurrendertothesmooth”(Nida118).Forthat,theculturalfactorshiddenintheoriginaltextwillbeignored.However,healsosays:“translationconsistsinrepr
