3、isamenableforcomparativelyeasierimplementation,third-partyverificationandcertification(Srivastav,2007).ISO9000certificationcanonlybeobtainedwhensystems,processesandproceduresmeetingtherequirementsofthestandardaredocumentedandputinpractice;andthepracticeoutcomesarerecordedandpresentedasevidenc
4、eofimplementation.TheflipsideofISO9000ISO9000isnotfreefromcriticismandqualityofproducts/servicesofISO9000certifiedcompaniesisnotnecessarilyhigherthanthatofnon-certifiedcompanies(Stratton,1994;SimmonsandWhite,1999;Rodriguez-Escobaretal.,2006).ResultsfromISO9000certification,however,dependonthe
5、intentionbehindimplementingISO9000(Hanetal.,2007).WhenanorganisationviewsISO9000certificationasanendinitself,itisvulnerabletoreverttotraditionalpracticeandlosethebenefitsafterISO9000certification(AskeyandDale,1994).ImplementationofISO9000inPSMIAlargepublicsectormanufacturingindustry:PSMI(name
6、disguised)havingmultipleproductionunitsindifferentpartsofIndiawasexperiencingseriousdifficultiesduetoliberalisationofIndianeconomyandtheresultingglobalisationofbusiness.SincequalityproblemsinPSMIwerefastmultiplying,thecompanydecidedtoimplementISO9000,preferringittoTQM(Srivastav,2007).PSMIalso
