4、nsonhandhelddevicesaredesignedforindividual-usermobileapplicationsandmayconstraininteractionamonggrouplearners.Thesmallscreensizemayleadtofragmentedandtête-à-têtecommunicationpatternsandfrequentlyobstructtheexternalizationofthelearningprocess.Thisstudycomparestwolearningscenarios,oneusingonlyh

5、andhelddevicesandtheotherintegratinghandhelddeviceswithLCDshareddisplays,inordertoexplorewhethershareddisplaysinclassroomscanaugmenthandhelddevicestofacilitatearticulationandcommunicationamongparticipants.Thisstudyinvolved15graduatestudentsenrolledinaStatisticsandDataMiningcourse.Datawerecolle

6、ctedonthecourseoveraperiodofeightweeks.Studentswererequiredtosolveproblemscollaborativelyandcontentanalysiswasperformedonstudentdialogueandnonverbalinteractionsinthetwodifferentlearningscenarios.Intheenvironmentwithshareddisplays,eachdiscussionthreadattractedmorestudentsanddemonstratedmoreshar

7、edvisualfocusthanintheone-to-onesettingbyasignificantmargin.Students,whenstudyinginanenvironmentwithshareddisplays,exhibitedmorelivelyinteractionwitheachother,includingfrequenthand-pointingbehavior.Furthermore,studentsproposedmoreargume
