3、ebeganwiththedismantlingofUStradebarrierswithChinainthe1970sandtheshiftofmanufacturingoperationsfromhigh-costlocationsintheUSandEuropetoemergingeconomiesinChina,Mexico,SoutheastAsia,Brazil,andCentralEurope(JavalgiandMartin,2007).The1990smarkedthegrowthofserv
4、icesbeingoutsourcedtonationssuchasIreland,Russia,Philippines,andIndia(Javalgietal.,2009;Cavusgiletal.,2008).Thistypeofglobalactivity,knownasoffshoreoutsourcing,hasbecomeavitalandnecessarycomponentofafinrfsbusinessvaluechain.Outsourcingofferssignificantcompet
5、itiveadvantageswhengoodsandservicesareproducedeconomicallyandwithacceptableorsuperiorqualitybyoutsidesuppliers(seeKotabeetal.,2008;Bunyaratavejetal.,2011).ArecentDukeUniversitystudyonoffshoring(Lewinetal.,2009)reportsthat,from2001-2009,USfirmspreferringcapti
6、veoffshoresuppliersforhightechnologyandtelecomservicesdroppedfrom52percent(2001-2003)to27percentfor2007-2009,whereaspreferenceforoffshoreoutsourcingtoindependentsuppliersgrewfrom6to45percent(p.5).Offshoreoutsourcingofferscompetitiveadvantageswhengoodsandserv
7、icesareproducedeconomicallyandwithacceptableorsuperiorqualitybysupplierslocatedoutsideafirm'shomecountry.Creatingvaluethroughoutsourcinghasemergedasanimportantstrategyforfirmstheservicessectorintheknowledgebasedglobaleconomy.Inspiteofthegrowingsignificanceof
