3、atingmeanssupplementingthetraditionallearninggrammarof“dictionaryitems+combinatoryrules”withanovellearninggrammarof“corpora+rulesforqueryingandanalyz-ingthem”.ExamplesarepresentedfromacourseinEnglishasaforeignlanguagedeliveredtoItalianpostgraduatestudentsofinternationalrelations.Studentswereasked

4、toreviseanMTtranslationofashorttextfromanacademicorjournalisticsourcerelatedtointernationalrelations,andthenwriteanessayexplain-inghowtheyusedcorporaandcorpuslinguisticstechniquestoevaluateandrevisethetranslation.Students’performancevariedbothintermsofthefinaltranslationproducedandinthewayanddegr

5、eetowhichtheyusedcorpusresources,anditappearsthatthestudentswhomostlybenefitedfromthecoursewerethosewhowereabletobothformulatebetterhypothesesandlinguisticqueries,andtoanalyzetheresultsofdifferentcorpusresources.Whilethecoursewasaimedatlanguageratherthantranslationlearners,theresultsalsohaveclear
