2、iochemistry,FacultyofAgriculture,CairoUniversity,EgyptAbstract:TheeffectofnitrogenlimitationandsaltstressontotallipidandunsaponifiablecontentsaswellasfattyacidcompositionofDunaliellasalinawerestudied.Thecontentsoftotallipids,unsaponifiablesandfattyacidcompositionwerebasicallydependonNaClandn
3、itrogenconcentrationintheculture.Thehighestyieldoftotallipids(37.69%)andunsaponifiables(29.02%)wasobtainedincellsgrownat16%NaClcombinedwith2.5mMnitrogen.While,minimumyieldoccurredincellsgrowninaculturecontaining8%NaCland5mMN.Cellsgrownat16%NaClcombinedwith2.5mMNproducedrelativelyhigherpropor
4、tionofpolyunsaturatedfattyacids(PUFAs),inparticularC18:3T3andC16:4T3.IncreasingNaClcombinedwithdecreasingNlevelsinthegrowthmediumincreasedthetotalunsaturatedfattyacids(TU)attheexpenseoftotalsaturatedfattyacids.Athighersalinity,thetotalamountsofcarotenoidsand"-tocopherolinunsaponifiablefracti
5、onweresignificantlyincreasedtoreachingupto12.03and4.10%.TheresultsobtainedsuggestthatD.salinacellscontaininghighamountoftotallipid,richinT3polyunsaturatedfattyacidsandantioxidantcompoundsinunsaponifiablelipidfractionmayusedasasupplementalingredientorasacompletefoodtoenhancetheperformanceands
