3、distributionwithinterrestrialecosystems.Theyareimportantregulatorsofsoilaggregatestructureastheytranslocatelargeamountsofsoilfromthebottomtothesoilsurface.Indoingso,theyformbiogenicstructures(BS)madeupofaggregatesofdifferentsizesandcharacteristics,i.e.a
4、ntmounds.TheseBShavevaryingcharacteristicsaccordingtotheantspeciesandthesoilwheretheycarrytheiractivities.Antsareconsideredsoilengineersbecauseoftheireffectsonsoilproperties,availabilityofresourceandflowofenergyandnutrientsinsoil.Thus,itisimportanttogai
5、ninformationontheirdistributionandabundance.RelativelylittleisknownaboutthespatialdistributionofmoundsandtheirroleinthesoilphysicalpropertiesinwetlandsoftheSanjiangplain,China.Weconductedasurveyofantmoundsandmeasuredthedensity,height,anddiameterandmater
6、ialcompositionofdifferentantmounds.Theecologicalcharacteristicsofwetlandsthatantmoundswideoccurrencewerealsoinvestigated,includingsoiltype,hydrologycharactersandplantcomposition.Differencesinsoilparticlecomposition,bulkdensityandsoilmoisturebetweenantmo
7、undandnaturalmeadowweremeasuredtoassesstheinfluencesofantmoundsonsoilphysicalproperties.Wealsostudiedtheeffectsofantmoundsonthemicrotopographyofmeadows.Antmoundswerefoundmainlyinthetransitionzonebetweenterrestrialandaquatichabitats,withwetlandtype,inclu
8、dingCalamagrostisaugustifoliawetmeadow,Calamagrostisaugustifoliamarshmeadow,shrubsmarshmeadowandCarexmeyeriana-Carexappendiculatawetland,beingasignificantfactor.MostofthemoundsdetectedwereinhabitedbyLasiusflavusFabricius,Lasiusni
