4、ropriatetodayaswegathertohonoursomeonewhospentalifetimeworkingacrossandbetweenlanguages,whounderstoodwhathappenswhentextsaretransposedthroughtranslation.Itisalsoappropriatewhenweconsidertheroleplayedbytranslationinliteraryhistory,arolesobeautifullysummarized
5、byWalterBenjamininhisessayTheTaskoftheTranslator:theoriginaliscloselyconnectedwiththetranslation;infact,thisconnectionisalltheclosersinceitisnolongerofanyimportancetotheoriginal.Wemaycallthisconnectionanaturalone,or,morespecifically,avitalconnection.Justasthe
