5、chologyinChinaTwiceinTheOriginofSpecies,DarwinmentionedanancientChineseencyclopedia.“TheprincipleofselectionIfinddistinctlygiveninanancientChineseencyclopaedia”(Darwin,1859/1979,Chapter1,p.92).DarwinlatermentionedthesameencyclopediainChapter5onp.181whentalkingaboutspecies
6、andanimalacclimation(Darwin,1859).Unfortunately,DarwindidnotprovidethesourceforthisChineseencyclopedia.SomeChinesewritersbelievethatDarwinreferredtotheworkbyJiaSiXiearound500ADofWeiDynastythatwasentitled“ImportantArtsforPeople’sWelfare”(贾思勰的《齐民要术》;张润生,1983).Over110,000wor
