5、-nativeand(notna¨ıve)secondlanguage(L2)speechperceptionimplicitlyassumecontinuityinalistener’shabitsofperceptualattentiontoacousticcuesbothbeforeandafterL2instructionbegins.Inthisdissertationwearguethatwhiletheabilitytoattendtofamiliaracousticcuesmaynotchangeasalistenerbeg

6、instolearnanL2,whetherandhowtheacousticcueswillbeattendedtoistheresultofaninteractionbetweenL1-influencedbottom-uphabitsofperceptualattentionandtop-downinformationabouttheL2.Thistop-downinformationabouttheL2istotallyunavailabletoanon-nativelistenerbutcannotbeavoidedbyanL2le
