3、eheartofmostactivitybasedplanningsystems.Themodularisationofthisalgorithmhasledtoanexplosionoffurtherdevelopment,empiricalandtheoreticalstudyofthiscomponent.Theprovisionofpowerfulconstraintmanagementlanguagesandtoolscouldleadtoarapidexpansionofthebene tstobegainedbyidentifyingmorestandardcompo

4、nentsthatcanbecombinedandre-usedinplanningandschedulingsystems.O-Plan2isacommand,planningandcontrolarchitecturewhichhasanopenmodularstructureintendedtoallowexperimentationonorreplacementofvar-iouscomponents.Thispaperdescribesthemodularstructureofthesystemalongwiththeinternalandexternalinterfac

5、elanguagesandprotocolswhicharebeingdevelopedontheO-Plan2project.Theresearchisseekingtoisolatefunctionalitythatmaybegenerallyrequiredinanumberofapplicationsandacrossanumberofdi erentplanning,schedulingandcontrolsystems.Thispaperisintendedtofurtherdiscussionsontheidenti cationofsuitablestandard
