5、onofrecombinantproteins.Amongthem,Bacillussubtilishasbeendevelopedasanattractivehostbecauseofseveralreasons:(i)Itisnon-pathogenicandisconsideredasaGRASorganism(generallyregardedassafe);(ii)ithasnosignificantbiasincodonusage;(iii)itiscapableofsecretingfunctionalextracellularproteinsdirectlyintothecu

6、lturemedium(atpresent,about60%ofthecommerciallyavailableenzymesareproducedbyBacillusspecies);(iv)alargebodyofinformationconcerningtranscription,translation,proteinfoldingandsecretionmechanisms,geneticmanipulationandlarge-scalefermentationhasbeenacquired.ButtherearealsotwoobstaclesreducingtheuseofB.
