5、abilityoftheblood-brainbarriertosmallorlargemoleculeswasevaluatedqualitativelyusingEvansblueorsodiumfluoresceinandquantitativelyusingthetransferindexesofMiodine-125-labeledbovineserumalbuminor[C]sucrose.Watercontentwasdeterminedusingwetanddryweightsandsodiumandp
6、otassiumcontentsusingflamephotometry.Corticaltissueinthemiddlecerebralarteryterritorywassampled<14daysafterocclusion.Asignificantincreaseinthealbumintransferindexwasfirstfound12hoursafterocclusion,andtheindexremainedapproximatelythesameuntilwatercontentpeaked3da
7、ysafterocclusion.Incontrast,thesucrosetransferindexincreasedgradually,significantlycorrelatedwithincreasesinthewaterandsodiumcontents.TissuestainingbysodiumfluoresceinwasmoreextensivethanthatbyEvansblue.Asedemafluiddecreasedgradually4-10daysafterocclusion,thealb
8、uminandsucrosetransferindexesincreasedmarkedly.Thesefindingsindicatethatdisruptionoftheblood-brainbarriertosmallmoleculesisaccompaniedbyaccumulationofedemafluidduring
