2、eendevelopedintheefforttoimprovetheacceptanceofcolono-scopyforcolorectalcancerscreening.Anewcolonoscope,theInvendoscope,ispresentedhere.Itconsistsofanendoscopicsheathwithaninvertedsleeve,instrumentchannel,andanelectrohydraulicdeflectingtip.Theinstrumentissteeredbyahand-heldd
3、eviceandpropelledbyamotorizeddriveunit.Objective:OurpurposewastoevaluatethefeasibilityofthenewInvendoscopeSC40.Design:Prospectivesingle-armpilotstudyover2timeperiodsusing2differentinstrumentprototypes(170and180/200cm).Patients:Thirty-fourhealthyvolunteers(19men,meanage49.7y
4、ears).Technicalinstrumentdefectsledtoprematureterminationin5additionalvolunteersduringthe2studyperiods(4inphase1,1inphase2),whowereexcludedfromfurtheranalysis.Interventions:Totalcolonoscopywasattempted,withallproceduresbeingperformedwithoutsedation.MainOutcomeMeasurements:C
5、ecalintubationrate.Results:Thececumwasreachedin82%ofthe34cases(95%CI,66%-92%),withbetterresultsinperiod2thaninperiod1(90%vs79%);ofthe6incompleteexaminations,4reachedthemidtransversecolonorbeyondand2werestoppedinthesigmoidcolonbecauseofpain.Thevolunteerratingshowedameanscore
6、of1.96(range1-6;1Znodiscomfort).Nocomplicationswereencountered.Limitations:Nodataregardingdiagnosticaccuracyandnodatacomparingtheinstrumentwithconventionalcolonoscopyareavailableasyet.Conclusions:Thispilotproof-of-principlestudyofanewmotor-drivencolonoscopeshowedpromisingce
