3、theircreditassignmentpaths,whicharechainsofpossiblylearnable,causallinksbetweenactionsandeffects.Ireviewdeepsupervisedlearning(alsorecapitulatingthehistoryofbackpropagation),unsupervisedlearning,reinforcementlearning&evolutionarycomputation,andindirectsearchforshortprogram

6、backtheoriginsofrelevantideasthroughthepasthalfcenturyandbeyond,sometimesusing“localsearch”tofollowcitationsofcitationsbackwardsintime.SincenotallDLpublicationsproperlyacknowledgeearlierrelevantwork,additionalglobalsearchstrategieswereem-ployed,aidedbyconsultingnumerousneu
7、ralnetworkexperts.Asaresult,thepresentpreprintmostlyconsistsofreferences.Nevertheless,throughanexpertselectionbiasImayhavemissedimportantwork.ArelatedbiaswassurelyintroducedbymyspecialfamiliaritywiththeworkofmyownDLresearchgroupinthepastquarter-century.Forthesereasons,this
