3、competenceL1<–>L2(Kastberg2002a)InthisarticlePeterKastbergwillexploresomecentralargumentssupportingthatthislistshouldalsoincludeafifthcompetence:5.CulturalcompetenceL1+L2Furthermorehewillshowusthatculturalissuesarenotmerelyacuriosityofcertaintechnicalgenres,butinfactinherenttotechnicalcommunica
4、tionasawhole.SciencesasCulturalConstructionsTakingintoaccountmorerecenttheoriesofculture–i.e.cultureasagroup'slearnedsetofhabitsandthevaluesaccompanyingthesehabits–wehaveabasisforarguingagainstwhatstillseemsbetoagenerallyacceptedidea,namelytheculturelessnessoftechnicalculture(seehoweverMaillot1
5、981andSchmitt1999fortheemergenceofotherviewpoints).Orrather,thenotionthattechnicaldomainsaredevoidofculturalinfluencesisduetothefactthatthelawsofthesciencesfromwhichtechnicaldomainsstem,namelythelawsofphysicalsciences,areabovetheconstraintsofanyonenationalculture.That,ofcourse,istrue.Butthisdoe
6、sn'tmeanthatsciencesareacultural,theyareartifactsofaprofessionalculture(Kastberg2002b).AlbertEinsteinputsitthisway:Scienceisnotjustacollectionoflaws,acatalogueoffacts.Itisacreationofthehumanmind,withitsfreelyinventedideasandconcepts(1938).Asconstructionsofthehumanmindphysicaltheoriesarenotandca
7、nnotbe,asitwere,'justifiedtruebelief'but(merely)'justifiedbelief'.Assuchtheyaremodelsofexplanationconstructedinretrospectinsuchawaythatforthemoment(thatisuntiltheyaredeconstructedbystrongerarguments)theyseemtofitourperceptionbest.
