2、originallydevelopedbytheU.S.AirForce,buthasbeensignificantlyupgradedandadaptedtomeetArmy,Navy-Marine,andCoastGuardapplications.ThispaperdiscussesimprovingTAWSpredictionsfornavalapplicationsbyaddingthewakeeffectstoboatandshiptargets.TAWScouldnotaccuratelymodelmovingwater
3、targetspriortothisimprovementbecausewakeeffectswerenotmodeled.Anempiricallybasedcomputationalapproachistakentoaccommodatetheruntimeconstraintsofanoperationalmissionplanningsystem.WhileTAWSonlyrequiresacomputedwakecorrectionfortarget-backgroundtemperaturecontrastandappar
4、entarea,themodelisalsosuitableforscenegeneratingprogramsthatgivepilotsfly-throughandtargetpreviews.TheatmosphericeffectsofthewakemodelusethewellknownMODTRANcode,andtheradiancecalculationsusethesamemethodsastheSeaRadwaterbackgroundcodecurrentlyinTAWS.Thesebasicmodelingme
5、thodsarediscussedandresultscomparingTAWSpredictionswithradiometricfielddataarepresented.Thetopicareasincludeageneralwakemodeldescriptionandpredictionresultsfortargetdetectionandrecognitionranges,zero-rangetarget-with-wakeradiance,backgroundradiance,andapparentarea.Keywo
