4、ratherthanthepowersofhismind.Triphammersthatmultiplythefists,microscopesthatsharpentheeye,andenginesofdestructionanddetectionarenewresults,buttheendresults,ofmodernscience.Now,saysDr.Bush,instrumentsareathandwhich,ifproperlydeveloped,willgivemanaccesstoandcommandovertheinherite
5、dknowledgeoftheages.Theperfectionofthesepacificinstrumentsshouldbethefirstobjectiveofourscientistsastheyemergefromtheirwarwork.LikeEmerson'sfamousaddressof1837on``TheAmericanScholar,''thispaperbyDr.Bushcallsforanewrelationshipbetweenthinkingmanandthesumofourknowledge.-TheEditor
